Eye Wash
In the event of an eye injury or chemical splash, use the eyewash immediately.Help the injured person by holding their eyelids open while rinsing. Rinse copiously and have the eyes checked by a physician afterwards.

Fire Blanket
A fire blanket is a highly flame-resistant blanket that can be used to either extinguish a small fire or to wrap around a person. They are made from 2 layers of woven glass fibre fabric and an inner layer of fire retardant film. They work by cutting off the oxygen supply (oxygen is one of the three elements that a fire needs to burn) and smothering the fire.

Fire Extinguisher
A fire extinguisher, flame extinguisher, or simply an extinguisher, is an active fire protection device used to extinguish or control small fires, often in emergency situations. It is not intended for use on an out-of-control fire, such as one which has reached the ceiling, endangers the user (i.e., no escape route, smoke, explosion hazard, etc.), or otherwise requires the expertise of a fire department. Typically, a fire extinguisher consists of a hand-held cylindrical pressure vessel containing an agent which can be discharged to extinguish a fire.

First Aid kits
First aid kits should provide a basic range of products to deal with most types of injuries encountered in the workplace. Components should include what is needed to treat the following injuries: major wounds, minor wounds (i.e., cuts and abrasions), minor burns and eye injuries. Since each workplace is unique, additional first aid kit components should be selected in addition to the basic components to address these hazards. First aid kit should be unlocked, accessible and placed in a highly visible area.

Fume Hood
A fume hood is an essential part of any lab that uses chemicals or substances that produce toxic fumes or aerosols. It pulls air currents through the front opening to draw dangerous fumes away from you, up a ventilation shaft and either outside the lab or to an area of the building with specialized filters and decontamination processes. It works in a way similar to the vents above kitchen stoves but better enclosed.

Gloves
Gloves provide a temporary layer of protection and are permeable to some substances. If your gloves become discolored or deteriortate remove them, wash your hands thoroughly, and get a new pair.

Goggles
If there is risk from chemical splashes then safety goggles are recommended. Goggles are tight-fitting,
completely covering the eyes and area immediately surrounding the eyes. They can provide protection from impact, dust and splashes. Some goggles will fit over prescription glasses. You will not be permitted to work in the laboratory without safety goggles. Goggles must be warn at all times in the lab. Do not remove them until you leave the room. Goggles do not provide eye protection when worn on the forehead or around the neck.

Lab Gown
Long sleeved, fully buttoned up labcoats or wrap around gowns, which are easy to remove, must be used in all laboratories where lab work involves hazardous material. Labcoats help prevent contamination of regular clothes from splashes and toxic material. For PC1 or PC2 labs, where biohazardous materials are handled, back fastening labcoats should be worn.
Skirts and shorts expose part of the leg and this must be taken into account, when assessing the level of PPE needed for any particular procedure.
To reduce the risk of contamination labcoats should be removed on leaving the laboratory and preferably hung on a hook, one labcoat per hook. Labcoats should be washed regularly, using the laundry service and not taken home to be wash with normal clothes. A labcoat which is grossly contaminated with hazardous
material must be disposed of as hazardous waste.

Mask
This is use to prevent the person working in the lab from inhaling toxic vapors and dust. This must be worn together with other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE's) espescially when doing an experiment.

Safety Shower
Use a safety shower in the event of a chemical spill. Pull the overhead handle and remove clothing that may be contaminated with chemicals, to allow the skin to be rinsed.
